CHURCH OF CHRIST

BIBLE SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY The Church of Christ Bible School held its anniversary services yesterday afternoon and evening in the School of Music. The conductor of the singing was Mr G. L. Page, and the organist Mr I. Inglis, and under their leadership the scholars of the school, assisted by the Church choir, rendered beautiful and inspiring choral items. With the floral decorations of orange and lemon, and the coloured frocks, the scone was picturesque.

In the afternoon the kindergarten department contributed a short programme of recitations and choruses, and Miss L. V. Wilkins, who for some years was engaged in mission work in Java, and is now on the teaching staff ot the school, gave a most interesting address. She described, with some visual aids, the methods of housebuilding used by the native people in Java, and closing by a helpful reference to the need for building the house of life on secure foundations as told by Christ in His parable of the two houses, one built on the sand, and the other built on solid rock.

Mrs Robinson, superintendent of the kindergarten department presented the prizes to the scholars under her care. In introducing Mrs Robinson. Mr A. E. Brough, general superintendent, said the kindergarten numbered 67, and had maintained an average attendance for the year of 54, 21 of the children having been present every Sunday.

The evening service was well attended. despite wet weather. The hall was comfortably full, and the congregation enjoyed a musical treat in the singing of the anniversary hymns by the school. Three congregational hymns also were enjoyed. The preacher was the minister of the Church. Mr J. K. Robinson, who spoke on “Life’s Little Day,” basing his address on the life of Solomon, King of Israel. The three lessons he emphasised were that there is no tragedy so terrible as a wrecked life, that the pursuit of earthly interests as ends in themselves is folly, and that human nature cannot be away from God. Solos were rendered at the services by Miss D. Willis, Miss J. Wilkins and Mr W. Gillespie. The anniversary will be continued tonight in the School of Music at 7.30, with the demonstration and prize-giv-ing, and will conclude on Thursday with the anniversary tea.
