PATRIOTIC GALA AT WAKEFIELD
SUM OF £195 10s RAISED ! The gala held recently in the Wakefield Domain was an outstanding suc- • cess. Much preparation by an energetic . committee paved the way for this success, and they and their willing helpers . are to be congratulated upon their ; splendid effort. i As a result of the gala and a “hard- : up” dance in the evening the sum of £ 195 10s has been handed over to the [ Help the Homeland Fund. Mr C. R. Fell formally declared the gala open, and was supported in his re- [ marks by Mr A. H. Crawley. Highlights of the day were a wheeli barrow Derby for ladies and men; de- • corated bicycles, £rams and tricycles, i the procession being led by an oldi timer riding a “penny-farthing.” and preceded by the Wakefield Citizens’ i Band: a well stocked Paddy’s Market, • and other stalls and side-shows all did thriving business. [ The committee wishes to thank all i those people who by donations in • money and in goods, by services ren- : dered and by their loyal support, made the day such a success.
