Hundreds of housewives were unawares, in spite of widepread preliminary publicity and did iot realise that coupons were necesary for butter, sugar, bacon and ham. iome women purchased heavily last laturday, causing scarcity. MAY RATION WOOL LONDON. 9th January. Several of the morning newspapers arecast that rationing eventually will e extended to clothing materials, standard suits may be designed for len and women containing a specified ercentage of wool and silk. The Director-General of Equipment «*nd Supplies at the Ministry of Supply, Lord Woolton, said. “The demands for ]he fighting forces will be very heavy in the next six months. I think much can be said for a restricted range of clothes if it is necessary to curtail the amount of wool to be used for civilian purposes.” Leeds manufacturers are quoted as saying that wool might be scarce in 1941. The Yorkshire Press recently indicated that there is some anxiety about future supplies.
