AUSTRALIAN FUNDS
HARDWARE IMPORTS [From Our Own Parliamentary Reporter] WELLINGTON, 29th June. The effect of overseas funds on Australian imports was referred to by Mr C A. Wilkinson (Independent, Egmont) in the House of Representatives yesterday, when he gave notice to ask the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) if the Government was aware that Australian manufacturers of steel, galvanised iron, wire netting, fencing wire and other necessary commodities had placed an embargo upon all further orders to New Zealand merchants, and # to the New Zealand Government, until full assurance was forthcoming that such shipments would be paid for in Australian currency? Did the Government realise the full implication of such action upon New Zealand industry? he added.
