METHODIST HOME AND MAORI MISSION

ADDRESSES AT ST. JOHN'S CHURCH A small but very appreciative audi- i ence gathered in St. John’s Methodist , Church on Tuesday evening to hear addresses by Sister Atawhai Wilcox and the Rev. H. J. Odell, of the Methodist Home and Maori Mission Department of New Zealand. The chair was taken by Mr H. Savage, who gave a cordial welcome to the visitors. Sister Atawhai gave an interesting account of her work as Deaconess among, the Maoris of Taranaki. She spoke ajso of the excellent results of work done at “Kurahuna,” in Onchunga, Auckland. This is a Methodist Mission “School of Domestic Science and Hygiene” for Maori girls. It is hoped to shortly commence a similar school in the Taranaki province. The Rev. H. J. Odell is the newlyappointed assistant superintendent for Methodist Home and Maori Mission work in New Zealand. In speaking of the need for such activities, Mr Odell gave an outline of the working of Home Mission Funds. Each circuit in the Dominion was asked to make every effort to reach its allocation this year. If that was done the regular income of the Home and Maori Mission Fund would be assured.

Both speakers were accorded a cordial vote of thanks, and regret was expressed that inclement weather had militated against a larger attendance of church members and friends.
