HUDSON CUP—SECOND ROUND 1 The second round of the Hudson Cup, i played last Saturday, resulted in the i best collectaion of scores handed in for j several years for any one match, and it j would seem to indicate a general allj round improvement in play. This is pari ticularly gratifying as the links are not j yet in first class order and the greens ' were decidedly bumpy after the recent : rains. S The following arc some of the best i scores turned in: Henderson 92-30. net 62 (par 70 *; Rodger 94-30—64; F. Rowling 74-8 -66: Dobbic 89-24—65: Lewis 84-16 —68; Boyd 98-30—68: Wilkinson j 98-30—68: Whitwell 99-30—69: Wright 84-14—70; Cameron. 85-14—71: Painter 83-12—71: Thorp 89-16—73; Pocklington 91-18—73, In view of these good cards, coupled with previous performances, the committee have decided on the following handicap adjustments: F Rowling to 7. Cameron 13. Thorp 15. Lewis 13. Talbot 24, Morgan 20. McKee 2Q. Dobbie 21. Craig 22. Henderson 22. Rodger 26. Boyd 28, Wilkinson 28, Whitwell 28. Stringer goes up from 10. now 12. Members arc requested to remember that it is a matter of strict etiquette for slower players to allow faster players to pass through. It was noticed last Saturday that, although pairs were set down, two games of four ball gemes wete in progress, and while there
j i.' no particular objection to this, these j four balls caused obstruction to many pairs matches on the links by not allowing them to pass through. The committee strongly appeals to players to always show' consideration to others on the links, especially on match clays, when private games must give ri. ht of way to official games. T , ’ , _ following four ball match has I been drawn for the coming Saturday. 17th June: Stringer and Simpson play Painter and Stevens; F. Rowling and Rodger play Pettigrew and Whitwell; Webley and Henderson play Garrahy am’ Wilkinson: Cameron and Satherley play Lewis and Boyd: Wright and Hamilton play Thorp and Muir; Pocklington *md Talbot play Silke and Craig: Stilwcll and Evans play Campbell and Dobbic; R .Rowling and Clinch play McKee nd Mackay; Failover and Bowers play James and Morgan. Any one unable to play is requested to advise the club captain as early as possible to avoid other players being disappointed. Players are reminded that should they feel in need of any tuition, the club ha* a fully qualified and very capable coach (Mr T. P. Dyke) always at their disposal for lessons, and the results of coaching are in many cases quickly profitable. There is considerable evidence of his expert coaching as indicated by the steady improvement already shown by many young players, whe have passed through his hands.
