To date 311 drivers' licenses have been issued (last year to the same date 283). There are still a fair number of driv#rs without licenses, as there were 422 licenses issued last year. I would like to point out the new regulation that all persons wishing to renew their drivers’ licenses must make personal application to the local authority in whose district their garage is situated I have always tried to meet drivers by giving their license if I knew them, but the above regulation now compels me to enforce the personal application.” CORRESPONDENCE The Commissioner of Transport advised that the Murchison-Lewis Pass main highway (Shenandoah road) had now been classified in Class 3. and vehicles with the load that it was carrying, and not exceeding 7 tons, may use the road.—Received. TUTAKI AND THE TELEPHONE The Postmaster at Murchison advised, in connection with telephonic communication to and from Tutaki during the time when the Murchison telephone exchange is closed, that the Matron of the Hospital (who is already assisting materially) was not prepared to accept further responsibility in regard to telephone attention : The Postmaster asked if the Council could suggest any other person willing to have the Tutaki line connected to their premises.
