CRISIS IN CABINET ABANDONMENT OF INSURANCE SCHEME ATTORNEY-GENERAL LIKELY TO RESIGN fC.P.A.— By Electric Telegraph—Cou.vrishU SYDNEY. 28th February. The “Sun ’ says that the endorsement by a joint party meeting at Canberra to-morrow of the Federal Cabinet’s decision to abandon the national insurance scheme will be followed immediately by the resignation of the Attor-ney-General. Mr Menzies. who is also deputy-leader of the United Australia Party in the Commonwealth Parliament. The “Sun” adds that Mr Menzies will have the support of a strong section of his party to form a corner bloc which will hold the balance of power on all questions on which the Government will not have the support of the Opposi- j tion. This development is regarded as being the first definite stage in the disintegra- ; tion of the Lyons Government, and will j probably result in the Prime Minister's ; seizing a favourable opportunity for an i appeal to the country.
