EXPULSION OF JOURNALISTS FROM ITALY
REPRISAL BY FRANCE Ibnliert Press AssociaMnnl • Received Ist March. 12.15 p.m.) PARIS, 28th February. It is understood that as a reprisal for the expulsion of journalists from Italy the authorities warned Signor Monelli, Paris correspondent of i “Corrieredella Sera,” to prepare to quit France. There are 40 Italian journalists in Paris compared with half-a-dozen Frenchmen in Rome. Some of their reports are regarded as inexcusable. The Foreign Office has drawn the attention of the Vatican authorities to the obstacles French journalists are encountering from the Italian Government in securing telephone and wireless facilities during the Conclave of Cardinals, and the refusal to allow many foreign journalists to enter Italy, thus preventing them reaching the Vatican. A message from Rome on 26th February stated: Paul Gentizon. for 12 years correspondent of the Paris Temps.” Robert Hodcl. the correspondent of a Zurich newspaper, who has lived in Italy for 29 years, and Luigi Pedrabzzini, a correspondent of a Swiss news agency, have been ordered without explanation to quit Italy before sth March.
