20 LAID DOWN LAST YEAR fU PA.— By Electric Telegraph —Oopynirht) LONDON, 23rd January. Italy laid down 20 submarines in 1938, ranging from 600 to 1461 tons, says the Rome correspondent of the “News Chronicle.” This brings Italy’s total number of submarines to 125. The objective is 170 by 1942. The largest will carry the unprecedented number of 14 torpeod tubes.
