CRISIS PASSES

RUTHENIA AND POUND CONFLICT UNLIKELY TO BE FORCED ITALY AND GERMANY OPPOSE EXTREME MEASURES lU P.A.-By Electric Telegraph-Copyright! LONDON, 25th November. The Ruthcnian problem, which recently appeared to be very menacing, is no longer regarded as serious in official quarters, says the Berlin correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph.” It is learned that Italy supported the German representations to Poland and Hungary against extreme measures. Hungarian propaganda for the annexation of Ruthenia has ceased and it is unlikely that Poland will force a conflict. The Warsaw correspondent of the "Daily Telegraph” says that the entry of Polish troops to the ceded Slovak territory on 25th November coincides with the virtual abandonment of hope of obtaining a common PoloHungarian frontier. A newspaper statement credited to an official source declares that the Hungarians did not know how to take j advantage of the exceptionally favour- ; c)ble circumstances which were re- ; peatedly presented. Alleging that Czech authorities and | troops assisted in an attack on the Polish-Slovak Boundary Commission, in which two Poles were wounded, the Polish Government announces its withdrawal from frontier delimitation and that it is taking measures to secure satisfaction. . Later Polish troops occupied Czaca. on the Slovak-Polish frontier, with a population of 5000, which the Poles claim has already been ceded in principle and will be occupied on Ist December.

The incident of the alleged attack by Czechs on the Polish-Slovak Boundary Commission is declared to have been settled by diplomatic means, and the delimination of the frontier is being accelerated, states a message from Prague. The Prague correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” reports a continuation of the activities of Polish terrorist bands. The Ruthenian Premier. Father Volosin, declared that the i Ruthenians are determined to retain their independence within the framework of Czechoslovakia. The Slovak Government is preparing concentration camps, in which Jews, Socialists, and other “unreliables” are to be confined The Jewish Party has been dissolved. POLISH-SOVIET DECLARATION NON-AGGRESSION PACT REAFFIRMED WARSAW, 27th November. The Polish-Soviet declaratioin after months of negotiations reaffirms the existing non-aggression pact and envisages mutual increase in commercial exchanges. It also agrees on the need for the constructive settlement of a number of questions arising from contractual agreements, particularly those originating from recent frontier inci- j dents.
