BRAWL ON TROJAN STAR

FOUR MEN INJURED POLICE MAKE ARRESTS (United Prise Association! AUCKLAND, 27th November. Four men were taken to hospital following a brawl in the Trojan Star on Saturday night, one being severely in jured. Those injured are : Cheyne, Edward, greaser; facial lacerations, injury to the left eye and slight concussion. Fitzpatrick, Thomas, Freeman; injury j t') the face and teeth knocked out. McKay. David, fireman; injuries to < ribs and abrasions. Keenan, George, fireman; one leg in-1 jured and abrasions to the face. Differences that developed on the voyagj from England to New Zealand are said to have culminated in a general brawl. A number of men were taken completely by surprise. Starting in the I firemen’s quarters in the forecastle, the affray developed into a running fight. Officers of the St. John Ambulance Assatiation who were called, found one man apparently unconscious on the deck. He j was Cheyne, the most seriously injured. : With Fitzpatrick and McKay he was takei to hospital and admitted. '1 he other two were discharged after treatment. A second call to the Trojan Star was received by the ambulance two hours lat- j er and they took to hospital George Keenan, who was given treatment and allowed to leave. Tlie police arrested four men. ACCUSED BEFORE COURT REMANDED UNTIL Ist DECEMBER AUCKLAND, This Day. The four men arrested as a result of the disturbance on the steamer Trojan ; Star on Saturday evening appeared be-; fore Mr McKean in the Police Court. Each was charged with assaulting Thomas Fitzpatrick. The accused were j Donald Currie Campbell (28), John McKenna (30), trimmers, Robert Smith (26), greaser, and Harold Stewart Hossad (24), fireman. The police said that all four were Bnembers of the crew of the Trojan i Star and obtained remands until Ist ] December. j An application for bail by counsel j j was .opposed by the police, who said | j that another man. allegedly assulted by ; accused, was in hospital rather seriously j injured. "These men will later be charged | with assaulting him,” said DetectiveSergeant Nalder, “and if they are allowed bail they will be immediately arrested on another charge of assault causing actual bodily harm.” The magistrate refused to grant bail.
