CONFUSION IN LERIDA
LARGE SCALE EVACUATION WARNING BY REBEL LEADER (Received 30th March, 10.25 a.m.) SARAGOSSA, 29th March. Insurgent airmen report large scale evacuation and great confusion in Lerida. Although it was thought that [ Government troops set fire to the entire town it was found that the blaze was confined to the petrol stores. General Franco issued the following statement: “We are opposed to using force and do not want to increase the rivers of 1 blood, but if the people in the enemy zone do not react against the oppressors we will be obliged hard-heartedly to take Lerida, Barcelona, Valencia and anything else necessary to win the
