MEETING OF COUNCIL CHAMPIONSHIP MEETINGS The monthly meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Golf Association was held at the Secretary’s Office, Wellington. on Monday, when there were | present—Sir Alexander Roberts ' (chairman). W. A. Kiely. A. R. Sclan- , ders, J. C. Peacock. W. E. A. Gill, and |G. O. Sutton (secretary). Apologies were received from Messrs C. H. Andrews and J. H. Drake. A letter was received from Mr C. H. 1 Andrews, a member of the Council, intimating that as he will shortly be taking up his permanent residence in Auckland he found it necessary to tender his resignation as a member of the Council. The Council recorded his resignation with regret. New Club: The following new club was elected a member of this Association: Onga Onga Golf Club. Onga Onga. 1 Hawke’s Bay. 1938 Championships. Correspondence! with the Otago Golf Club was read and that club’s suggestion that the tournament commence on Thursday, 1 10th November, was definitely approv- ; ed of. Details of the programme for this meeting were left over until a later j date.
North and South Island (Close) Amatcuf Championships: The Manawatu Golf Club and the Timaru Golf Ciub have both definitely confirmed the Council’s acceptance of the offer to hold these tournaments on their respective courses and the secretary reported that details regarding the tournament had been sent to each of them, the dates being Easter Saturday. 16th April to Tuesday, 19lh April. Entries for each championship to be restricted to the 32 with the lowest certified stroke handicap, ties for last place .to be decided by lot. Conditions of entry are residential qualification of three months in the Island, membership in an affiliated club in the Island and
compliance with amateur status as defined by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews.
The Greens Research Committee at Palmerston North forwarded a full report and statement of accounts together with an estimate of their requirements for the year ending 31st December, 1938, totalling altogether £SBO and both the report and the estimate were approved by the Council. Insurance, Third ®arty Risk: Letters were received from two underwriting companies outlining the conditions on which they would be prepared to issue the policy covering third party risk attaching to clubs, their members and employees, but as one of the letters had come in at a very recent date and the Association’s solicitor had not had sufficient time to compare them, consideration was left over until a little later. 1940 Centenary Golf Tournaments: The secretary reported that at the direction of the Council he had written to Mr Sloan Morpeth, Melbourne, to get his views in the light of his experience in connection with the Centenary Tournament held in Melbourne in 1934. Standard scratch scores were confirmed as follows: Pukerua Bay 70, Shandon (new course) 73. Forthcoming tournaments advised to the Association are as follows: —Castlecliff Golf Club. Wanganui, Easter tournament, 15th, 16th and 18th April; Napier Golf Club, Easter tournament, 15th, 16th and 18th April; Shandon Golf Club (Wellington), Easter tournament, 16th to 18th April; Eltham Golf Club, winter tournament, 4th, sth and 6th June; Masterton Golf Club, annual tournament. 4th. sth and 6th June: Hastings Golf Club, annual tournament, 25th, 2fith and 27th August: Eltham Golf Club. Central Taranaki Championship. 24th, 25th and 26th September.
