Adana
Adana, whore Flying Officer Clouston, flying from England lo New Zealand, made a forced landing, is a town of Asia Minor. The capital of the vilayet of Adana, it is on the Seihun Irmak. 42 miles by the Bagdad railway north east of the port of Mersina, and near the Cilician Gates. The river is crossed b.v a bridge attributed to Justinian and since restored. Wool, cot ton, grain, timber, wine and fruit are exported. The town bas a population of about 50,000. The CMiciau Gates are a pass of Asia Minor, the Pvlae Cillciae of tbe Ito* mans. This historic pass, a deep gorge, n its narrowest about 25 feet wide, and over 3000 feet above sea level, leads across the Taurus Mountains to the valley of Adana and Tarsus. It was through it that Alexander tbe Great entered Clcilia 331 B.C. It is on the line of tbe Bagdad railway.
