INFLATION FEARS LEAD TO BUYING
NEW YORK, 2nd December
Wealthy Americans arc buying extraordinary quantities of diamonds, as they fear that a new attempt at nidation will be made by Congress, and that the dollar will be cheapened. The boom in diamond buying has also been accentuated by the growth of the instalment purchase system. Imports of diamonds into tiie United Slates in the last nine months have been valued at 32,230.000 dollars (£B,057.000), compared with 28.940.000 dollars (£7,325.000) in the whole of 1936. Dealers report that there is an
urgent demand for huge stones worth between 7.000 and 25.000 dollars ( £ 1.750 and £6.250).
