IN AID OF ST. JOSEPH’S ORPHANAGE

VARIOUS FUNCTIONS At the present time energetic committees are at work organising a Garden Fete in aid of St. Joseph’s Orphanage which will be held at the end of the month. In conjunction with this, various functions are now being held to further augment the funds on the day. To-morrow in St. Mary’s Hall a novelty dance will be held. These dances are becoming exceedingly popular, and this one will be no exception. A large number of novelties, including Monte Carlos, will be introduced on a big programme of entertainment. and Lex Logan’s De Luxe Orchestra will supply the necessary up-to-date music, whilst extras will be played on the piano-accordian. An added attraction will be a home-made supper.. A cooking comeptition and plant sale day will be held on Saturday afternoon next which is also to take place in St. Mary’s Hall. Entrance is free for the cooking competition, but in the fancy work section a small entrance fee of 6d has been fixed. There are various classes and for each class good prizes are being offered. Bedding, flower and tomato plants will be on sale, also home-made cakes, scones, etc. Those attending this novel afternoon may procure afternoon tea at a modest cost. Another entertainment of quality will be held in the State Theatre on Sunday evening next at 8.15, when a Charity Concert will be given by leading local artists and members of St. Mary’s Choir. Music lovers, should remember the date and time.
