AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION
A meeting of the Motueka Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held in Mr Wilkinson’s office, on Saturday evening, when Mr D. Haining presided over a large attendance of members.
I-I. West, wrote thanking the association for appointing him judge of the Dog section at the forthcoming show. The Nelson Jersey Cattle Breeders Club wrote stating that it had been decided to donate the sum of .£5 5s to the Motueka A. and P. Association, subject to the condition that the donation be awarded as extra prizes to the amount of prize money usually awarded by the Motueka Association in the following classes:—Pedigree Jersey bull 2 years and over; pedigree Jersey cow 2 years and over, pedigree Jersey bull 1 year old, pedigree Jersey heifer, 1 year old. It was resolved, on the motion of
Mr C. Newport, that the Nelson Jersey Breeders’ Association be thanked tor donation of £5 5s towards the prize list. Mr Batchelor suggested that there be a class for decorated animals, exhibited by children. He was of the opinion that this would be a popular event, and he made the offer of a first prize of £l. On the motion of Messrs F. Teece and G. Robinson it was decided that Mr Batchelor’s offer be accepted with thanks, and that the event be included in the schedule. The matter of including a chopping competition as an additional attraction at the show was fully discussed. It was decided (Messrs Tarleton and R. Teece) that the question of running an axeman’s carnival in conjunction with the show be referred to the Grounds’ Committee, who will confer with the Axeman’s Committee and report back to the executive. Mr R. Teece moved that it be a recommendation to the executive that the Governor-General be invited to officially open the Motueka A. and P. Show, and that, in the event of this not being possible, the Minister of Agriculture be asked to perform the opening ceremony. It was also moved by Mr L. Drummond, that the Motueka Municipal Band and the Motueka Ladies’ Pipe Band be asked on what terms they will supply music at the Show Grounds. On the motion of Messrs Teece and A. Green, the executive was asked to go into the question of cost of a suitable shed, to house school-exhibits on show day, and in which the hurdles could afterwards be stored.
