(To The Editor) Sir, —It would, I think, add to the comfort of pedestrians to and from Port Nelson, if the present footpath and cycle track were transposed. The cycle track is at a more comfortable distance from the railway and is also a pleasanter walk, being partially shaded during the warm summer months. This will not, of course, ensure the safety of any person who deliberately wanders on the railway line—but it will keep all walkers at a safer distance therefrom. Most cyclists are very well able to look after themselves. To walk on the railway line or even to be on it at all —at any time, whether there are trains about or not, is, I believe, an act of trespass and liable to prosecution.
