DEMOCRATS TO GO ONE BETTER A SECOND “NEW DEAL” PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION (United Press Association—By Electric , Telegraph—Copyright) WASHINGTON, 14th June. Authoritative sources revealed today that the Democrats are drafting a second “New Deal” designed to go one better than the Republican platform. The Democrats will pledge a Federal plan of public works, whereas the Republicans favour the executing Of such undertakings on their individual merits. The plan would permit an immediate beginning of large scale construction in the event of another depression or other emergency. The Democrat platform is to call for a long-range slum clearance and endorse the Administration’s farm, social security and stock market regulation nd other operating programmes. Slum financing is not discussed, but a new bond issue is being considered.
