TASMAN FLIGHT SOUTHERN CROSS CREW (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. The fourth member of the crew of tbe Southern Cross for the impending Tasman flight will be T. Pctliybridge, who will be mechanic and engineer. He is Australian trained and holds a pilot’s ticket, and was a mechanical engineer at the Tasmanian end of the Australian National Airways Company. AIR TRAVEL INCREASED TRAFFIC FROM CROYDON (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, 12th August The extremely rapid growth of air travel is shown by the fact that- whereas thirteen years ago only 20 passengers left Croydon in an average week now >2OOO leave the airport weekly. This increase promises to be rapidly exceeded. In the first six months of this year Imperial Airways carried 30,000 passengers from Croydon alone- as many as the total carried during the whole of last year. It is now possible to book by air from Croydon for 130 Continental centres apart from Empire services.
CRASH AT ABBOTSFORD SYDNEY, 13th August. A Moth ’plane crashed at Abbotsford this morning, the pilot, Whitford, -being injured, and the machine wrecked. “CRASH-PROOF ’PLANE” (Received loth August, 9.35 a.m.) NICE, 14th August. Making a second demonstration in a so-called crash-proof aeroplane, Sauvant had himself and machine passed over the edge of a 000 feet ravine at Duranus. He suffered a broken arm.
