HIGH PRICE OF BREAD
BAKERS’ EXPLANATION (By Telegraph—Press Association) GREYMOUTH, 20th February. Replying to press criticism of the high price of bread, Mr Tiurton, president of the Master Bakers’ Association, declared to-day that no reduction is possible until {it least tho end of the year, for which period the Government had fixed the scale price of wheat. Bran and offal at present prices were definitely against millers. Whilst there is the present fixed price of flour the price of bread cannot be lowered. The Bakers’ Federation definitely promiso to attend any-conference called to review the whole position regarding wheat-, flour, and bread prices. The high price of bread is not the wish of the bakers, whose sales are thereby affected.
