AUSTRALIAN SILVER COINAGE

EXCHANGE IN NEW ZEALAND (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. Influenced by a recent announcement that the hanks are charging full rates of exchange for Australian silver coinage in New Zealand, a number of tradespeople are refusing to accept such currency in payment of goods or service. Inquiries show that the banks are not charging exchange on Australian silver coins of an amount less than forty shillings. Australian silver coins are minted at the Royal Mint or Australian branches and are clearly legal tender in New Zealand for payment for amounts up to forty shillings.
