LONDON MARKETS The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated 31st ultimo, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London : Tallow.—Market quiet and very little demand at auction. Present quotation's are, for spot:—Mutton: Fine 36s to 36s 6d, fair to good 33s to 34s 6d, dark to dull 30s to 31s; beef, sweet and/or mixed 34s to 375, fair to good 31s 6d to 33s 6d, dark to dull 28s to 30s; mixed, fair to good 31s to 335, dark to dull 28s 6d lo 29s 9d; gut, etc., 26s to 295. Hemp.—Manila market dull and easier. "J" grade for July/September and August/October shipment sold down to £24. Sisal: Market continues dull and prices lower. Sellers of fair average quality No. 1 afloat at £2B 10s and June/August shipment at £2B 15s. Buyers' ideas 5s less. No. 220 s below No. 1. Good marks not quoted. New Zealand: Market very quiet. Small sales of fair for May/June shipment at £25 10s and No. 3 tow £l6. Shippers offering common at £23 10s and rejected at £22 10s, but prices unattractive in comparison. Oats.—Demand continues slow. English supplies moderate and best white offered at 20s. German freely offered and May shipment sold up to 15s 6d. Chilian afloat sold 12s 9d; Plate 12s. Nominal Value New Zealand "A" grade Gartons 'for May/June shipment 20s. Peas.—Better demand during the month. English "new crop Maple promises well. Old crop quiet and find parcels firmly held for 42s to 435. "A" grade Tasmanian for June/July shipment sold 63s 6d and New Zealand May shipment 57s 6d with buyers of June/July shipment at 58s. Blues: Poor demand. Good Dutch and English still obtainable at low prices; No enquiries for, colonial and/nominal value about £l2 per ton.' Beans. —English meet better enquiry and good winter making 38s to 395. Market is inactive for imported. Chinese horse for July/September shipment offered £8 per ton. Danish.Cocksfoot. —Demand slow. Present value 75s c.i.f. nominal.

Linseed, —Market "quiet.'.but steady, closing firm. • Sellers quote May /June shipment Calcutta £lB 17s 6d, and Born* bay £l9 10s- Plate afloat sold up to £l7 12s 6d. .(' Apples.—Good trade at slightly lower prices. Arrivals include Pakeha practically cleared;'Rarariga part sold; Rangitiki and Zealandic now unloading (word mutilated).' Average prices are: Delicious 10s to 12s, Jonathan 10s to 13s, Dunn's Favourite, Senator, Cleopatra, Sturmer, 12s to 14s, Newton Pippin 12s to 13s, Salome, Staymari's 'Winesap lis to 12s. Otago sorts generally Is more, with Cox's Orange 20s to 30s. Pears.—Poor market. Large arrivals' of Victorian. New Zealand prices about same as last week to 6d per tray easier. Wool.—Sales closed yesterday. Competition brisk generally and well sustained. Continental demand keen for both Merino and crossbred and Home trade operated freely in spite of partial stoppage in Yorkshire. Strong American support for medium and coarse crossbred. Compared with last series closing rates Merino superior 5 per cent, to 10 per cent, and other 10 per cent, to 15 per cent, higher; New Zealand cross-bred-and fine crossbred 7£ per cent., medium crossbred 10 per cent, to 15 per cent., coaifle crossbred 15 per cent., scoured 10 per cent., slipe fine 5 per cent., medium 10 per cent., coarse 10 per cent, to 15 per cent, higher.
