VIVID LIGHTNING
DAMAGE AT INVERCARGILL (By Telegraph—Presß Association) ■■•'..;, ' INVERCARGILL, This Day. A particularly vivid flash of lightning startled unany residents yesterday morning. .-. An area adjacent to Mr J. W. Smith's i residence, Hollywood Terrace/ H Gladstone, received the full force of the bolt,' and was extensively damaged. The . main force of the bolt attracted appar- ,f_ ently by a high wireless aerial mast was received by the lawn in front of the residence. The aerial wires were entirely burnt, and a mass of soft earth scattered all over the concrete walk, and solid concrete paths were torn up in several places. . . ' Similar wreckage was noticed in all of the houses in the near neighbourhood. All. telephones and electric light systems . were put out of commission.. The ex- : plosion was accompanied by a blinding Hash which was repeated in a lesser degree in several houses.
