MISLEADING REPORT

EARTHQUAKE AT FIJI , (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Press Association received the following unsigned message from Suva: "Oceanic Press broadcast yesterday evening that the Fiji islands were severely shaken by an earthquake at noon to-day. A mission schooner was dismasted, and the auxiliary schooner Veilomani foundered and the schooner Motau were damaged. It v/as the most severe shock since 1913."

This is absolutely misleading. The earthquake yesterday did no damage. The auxiliary mission schooner Veijomani was dismasted in a squall earlier in the morning owin'g to a rotten mast and did not founder. The schooner Motau'was stranded on a reef three weeks ago. The 'quake lasted twenty seconds. Please correct misstatement.
