The Hon. W. H. Mclntyre in reply said that in comparison with amounts raised in the West Coast, it would seem that Nelson people did not appreciate the fine school which had been erected at Auckland Point, really the model school of the South Island. Oranity had raise,! £135 in one effort, and Henniston had just, snout £IOO. Nelson people, should make a special effort. He quite agreed *with the deputation that a good job was essential. Mr McConehie added that Ihe Board could rest assured that, the committee would not relax its efforts. The chairman of ihe Board (Mr F. W. O. Smith) s«'d the Board fully appreciated the fact- that everything done must be of a permanent nature. Much had had to be provided immediately and that, had made difficulties for the committee, all the same (be Hoard must consider its other responsibilities. If the committee raised £IOO the i.iovernmenl subaidv would be £IOO with £ICO from the Hoard. £3CO would be available. If, on the other hand, the Board alone contributed, it would have to pay the whole £3OO, Favourable consideration ol the committee's request was promised and the deputation withdrew.
