The chairman of the Nelson Education Board this morning welcomed Mr C. Thorp who was elected to fill the vacancy on the Board caused by the death of Mr Morris of Motneka. Mr Smith said that formerly Mr Thorp was one of their teachers and now was a practising solicitor. It was satisfactory that one who had left, the board's services had the desire and interest to join the board_nnd serve in this way also. He welcomed Mr Thorp as a valuable addition to the Board. In reply Mr Thorp regretted there should have been a vacancy. He trusted his relations would be as pleasant as they were when he was a servant of the board.

The Minister of Lands (the Hon. A. D. McLeod), with his private secretary.
