TWO MEN DETECTED TRAIN WARNED IN TIME (United Pres* Association.) PALMERSTON N.. This Day. Since the three attempts to wreck the “Limited” in the vicinity of Palmerston North in March and April last there has been no suspicion of interference with the line, hut. about. 7.31) on Saturday evening two young men were interrupted in an apparent attempt to loosen the rails on the line, near Awapuni siding, about three miles from Palmerston North, by a settler arriving at the crossing. The two men made off on bicycles, which one had been holding, in the direction of Longburn, and the others were unable to give chase. The railway authorities were warned and instituted an inspection, when they found that the pins attached to the lish plates had been bent and some partly drawn. The fast train from Wellington was held at Longhorn till “all clear" was given, and reached Palmerston North an hour and three-quarters late.
