HOSPITAL BOARD AND MOTUEKA
(To The Editor.) Sir, —Replying to your correspondent "Hospital Subscriber” whoso letter appeared in last Monday’s paper. Whilst agreeing with much that lie says regarding the Nelson Hospital Board’s ridiculous extravagance in proposing to spend £4OOO on the. grounds of Nelson Hospital and their parsimonious treatment of Motueka Hospital, etc., 1 feel it my duty to Correct certain mis-state-ments. Regarding provisions of a stretcher. There is and has been for a very iong time a stretcher at the Hospital, and qf course it is used when necessary. But tltfe building of the Hospital is inconvenient and .the usual long pole handles cannot be used when taking a patient to certain rooms on account of the crookedness of the passages. . The can vas side handles are used, which do not inconvenience the person being carried, ihough they are more troublesome for the carriers. Regarding steriliser—Of course there is a steriliser and oi course it is always used. That certain improvements are necessary to the structure of Motueka Hospital is evident, otherwise the Health Department would not have ordered the Board to carry out the improvements which caused so much discussion at the Board’s last meeting. Tile latter’s refusal or attempt to evade carrying out the Department’s requirements does not increase their reputation for intelligence.—l am etc., MOTUEKA RATEPAYER.
