A NEW YEAR STATEMENT

BY THE PRIME MINISTER BRIGHT PROSPECTS (United Presi Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Prime Minister has issued a Now Year statement in which on tlio dawning of a New Year he offers to the citizens of New Zealand his congratulations on the general outlook of the Dominion. Never in the history- of the country have the prospects of the people been brighter than to-day-. Concluding, Mr Massey says: “New Zealand can take pride in the knowledge that it is building up a new nation in the Pacific, a nation made up of an Island race which, during the lastthousand years, lias been such an important iniluence in the happiness and the welfare of humanity. We have scarcely got beyond the stage of laying the foundations for a new nation, but the good work continues and wo must see that due and proper encouragement given to all those factors essential for the spread of that, righteousness which the best authority in the universe tells us ‘exaltoth a. nation,’ and we have always to bear in mind that if success is to attend our aims and ambitions we must do unto others as we would that they should do unto us. If we of the present generation, and those that come after us, proceed on these lines the result will be the building up of a great and righteous nation worthy 4>f its environment and of tho AngloSaxon stock from which it springs. Finally, if all classes of our people pull together in wholeheartedly working for the common good, burying as far as possible petty bickerings and sectional differences and being ever actuated by that splendid spirit which enabled us to face and overcome the grave perils which confronted the Empire during the last decade, then I can confidently predict for New Zealand a new year richly endowed with brightness and prosperity in which all cur citizens will fully share.”
