NO SHORTAGE OF LEGISLATION
PLENTY OF BILLS

WELLINGTON, This Day. There is going to be no shortage of legislation this session. Already there is a good list of Bills on the order paper and yesterday the following new Bills were'given notice of, Rent, Restriction Bill (Hon. J. G. Anderson), Shops and Offices Amendment Bill (Mr McKeen), .Legislature Amendment Bill (Mr Massey), Medical Practitioners Bill (Sir Maui Pomare), Local Authorities Superannuation Amendment Bill (Hon. Mr Bollard), Harbours Amendment Bill (Mr Armstrong), War Funds Amendment Bill (Hon. W. Downie Stewart), Gaming Amendment Bill (Hon. R. F. Bollard) and some local bills. The following Bills were introduced by Gover-nor-General’s message:—Government Accident Insurance Bill; Police Offences Act Amendment Bill and Registration of ’Engineers Bill. Before the House rose last night i t agreed to the second readings of the following Bills :—Police Force Amendment Bill; Copyright Amendment Bill; Extradition Amendment Bill; Sale of Food and Drugs Amendment Bill and local legislation. When moving the second reading of the Police Force Amendment Bill, Hon. .T. Parr stated that it contained a clause providing that where a warrant had been issued for an arrest and had not been executed,, any member of the force might, without having a warrant in his possession, make the arrest. .Mr Witty: Ts nob that a dangerous clause?
The Minister of Justice replied in the negative. He said that it was frequently done. A warrant must have been issued for tho arrest.
Mr Holland raised the question of the wrong man being arrested and the Minister said in such cases a wrongfully arrested man would have a case for damages.
