HAMILTON, July 17
In the Magistrate’s Court, Joseph Halle, taxi-driver, was charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of the boy, Maurice Ansell, on 6th May. Evidence was given that the boy was riding a bicycle when suddenly and without warning he swerved, with the result that the accused’s car, which was following, crashed into the bicycle, the boy being thrown and killed. There is a conflict of opinion as to whether the accused, who accelerated and swerved the right when he saw the possibility of an accident, should not have gone to the left and slowed down. There is also a wide difference of opinion regarding the speed of the car. The accused was committed for trial at the Supreme Court.
