AMONGST THE DEER
REPORTS FROM PARTIES

CHRISTCHURCH, April 8, Air Willis's party, who have been shooting in the Upper Wairau Cauilty, have returned to Hanmor Springs. They secured 117 deer. They report deer to be numerous, but in very poorcondition. Very few good heads were secured. Messrs W. Fowler (Hanmer), N. Fowler (Glenroy), and. Hunt (Kinvee), who spent a few days shooting at Fowler’s Creek, secured ten heads. Alossrs ALclvay and Rippingale, who had been shooting at: Lake Tennyson and the head of the:Clarence,' shot 87 head, all in poor condition. The best heads secured were two twelves, three tens, and several eights. They report great damage lone to young beech undergrowth in the bush', all seedlings, etc., being destroyed. Messrs Bedelph and party, who wore shooting over the Nelson tops, returned with the finest, collections of heads ever brought into the iownshio. The total bag was 38, and included several “royals,” one being exceptionally line.
