ESTIMATES OF DAMAGE (United Press Association.) TAUAIARUNUr, April 8 It is possible now to give some estimate of the damage done by the Iloocl. Farmers on lowlying ground near KaKahi suffered heavily. In one ease a cottage was washed away and in another a house had to be abandoned owing to a landslide. Small bridges were all swept away in the Kakahi district and the Egiqont Box Coy. lost their bridge. One farmer estimates his losses at £SOO, and others lost just as heavily. The Taumarunui water supply was cut off for two days and the electric current was erratic until yesterday afternoon owing to damage *to the transmission poles. Householders suffered considerably in the lowlying areas of Taumaru- , nufaiid those whose, houses were invaded by water estimate the damage in each case at £SO. Saleyards were also damaged to the extent of £3OO. The total rainfall during the flood period was nearly seven inches. RAIN CEASES AUCKLAND, This Day. Latest reports show a cessation of rain generally, with a subsiding of' the floods except" in the Whangarei district. Information from north iof Helensville shows that the plight of settlers is riot, so serious as was anticipated, the chief _v concern being supplies of food.
