\ ] R r£r e crowd of people assembled at tho Mo to oka, Post Office last evening to await the result of the Council election. Since there were 12 candidates seeking election, speculation was rife ns to who the successful contestants would be. At about nine o’clock the Mayor (Mr McGlashen), who had been returned unopposed, announced that the following had been elected: — E. Wratt 376 I). IV. Talbot 328 At. Staples 310 C. L. Jackson 270 R. Atkin s 251 .1. McCarthy senior 223 The unsuccessful candidates were: —Shaw Thompson 213, E. C. Batchelor 187, A. C. Fry 173, J. T. Brough ICO, H. A. Chapman 163, D. W. Gnveston 136. There has been much discussion lately amoim certain sections of the community regarding the half-holiclay question. On a petition, a. poll was taken yesterday, and tho public settled tho position in no uncertain manlier. tho figures being:— Saturday 360 Wednesday 179
