A fire (incurred at 2.45 a.m. in Kyle's tailoring and Tymon's drapery stops in Tainui street and .Mawhera Quay. The. outbreak apparently started in a store shed and spread to the roofs of the connecting premises. The slocks woe greatly damaged by water. Kyle's lus.i is estimated at over £IOOO above insurance (Alliance £650. Standard £250.;. Tymon's stock was all damaged by water jwcept the men's department. The insurance was £4OOO (Atlas £IOOO, London and Lancashire £IOOO. New Zealand £IOOO, Phoenix £1000). There was no insurance on Die fittings. The premises were owned by J. E. Williams, Kyle's being insured for £SOO (New Zealand), and Tymon's for £ISOO (Standard).
