M.P. for Auckland East, Lieutenant-General Sir James lie van Ed wards, presiding. .Tlie chairman recalled the fact that he Had inspected the New Zealand forces in 1809, there was no finer material for soldiers it' the world. Mr Myers, in the course of his speech, dealt with finance and defence. He justified the New Zealand loans on the oround that they were devoted to reproductive works. He declared that Australia, Canada, and New Zealand should unite to relieve Britain of the defence of the Pacific.
