VILLAGERS HOAXED
OLEHSVIAN'S EKTRAOROINARY CONDUCT THE KNIGHT CASE. (Pbec* Association.—OopxmaaT.) (Rec. Feb. 5. 9.35 a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 5. The Hun-slet villagers are incensed, as they had made three weeks' indefatigable search for the Rev. Knight, who was a, popular cricketer, footballer, and boxer. Late.y lie had treated his wife violently and behaved queerly. On the 18th of January lie compelled his wife to accompany him to Bridlington, and* from there they tramped six miles in mud and fo<j to a dangerous cliff. He told her that he intended to disappear, and' carefully prepared the scene, leaving an umbrella and camera on the cliff. He then departed, after instructing his wife to go to the nearest farmhouse and say that she saw him fall over tin- cliff. The wife was unaware of Knight"? intentions, but was simply terrorised. She did not know of his relations with a schoolteacher. (A cablegram stated that Knight was not dead, but that he left the country under an assumed name, and was believed to have cone to Australia. (Received Feb. 5. 10.55 a.m.) LONDON. Feb. 4. Tt is believed that Knight and n school teacher sailed in the Ballarat under assumed names. •> •(Rec. Feb. 5. 11.5 a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 4. The "Yorkshire Post" state?. that Knight sailed for Australia accompanied by a--female Sunday School teacher.
