OBITUARY.
MB. WILLIAM HADDOW. • The death occurred last night of one of _ Nelson's- best known citizeins—Mr. William Haddow, J.P. i\±r; Haddow was born in Scotland in 1831, and camo to Nelson- in 1863. He- joined the late Mir. J. W. Neale in business, and 'the weijl-knowu partnei-ship' -of NeaAe &xid Haddaw was commenced 1 . . In 1891 Mr. Haddow. retired from t!he business. For the past few years Mr. Haddiow . had , 'lived: '.a quiet, life in retirement. . Throughout his long residence of 48 years in Nelson he,had taken a keen intat in public affairs. Ho served in.the City Council for a fairly long period, andwasa keen meanlb&r of ih& Inland Comanunica.tioiu League. Tho old- Nelson Artisans' Association was started largely through his end'eavonrs. This Association in years gone''by did a deal •of useful work and was instnimental in bringing out many nien who: afterwards occupied prominent ,puMi oppositions. Ma-. Haddow was a member of this directorate of tlie Permanent Biiilding Society for many years- and was actually a director at the time of his death, though only a, few da.vs ago-he announced that he would not seek'reelection. He was also a, meonber'of the Trust Board of St. John's Metlhicdist Church. As a. Pettif (wiife of the Mayor), and Mrs'. A. Ei H-Q-unsell, of Stoke; and the sympathy of a wide circle of friends will- go out to them in tlh&ir bereavement.
