BUSH FIRES.
DESTRUCTION IN THE HAWEHA DISTRICT. [Unitbd Peess Association.] HAWERA, Tuesday. Bush fires, frbm which a great part of , the district happily has been . free heretofore, have, broken out on the Au.roa and Mangarohero roads, and on the Strajiord-Opuhake road. On Sunday the grass and bush /burned fiercely, the Uames travelling at a terrific rate. Mi George's new house, and also sheds belonging to Messrs Satchell, Campbell and Searle, were burnt. Other place: were saved with difficulty, the bands oi fire-fighters being blinded and exhausted by the smoke and heat. An area twc miles wide and four miles long has beer devastated. Parkes Bros., sawmillers lost timber and a tram-line, and s number of bridges and a quantity o: fen -in;?, with much firewood, have beei t?;str.v«d.
