POLICE RAIDS. [United Pr«s Association.! AUCKLAND, October 21. An information recently laid by Constable O Grady, stationed at Te Kuiti, charging Ada Booth, a single woman, a European, and Waiter Thorp, a half caste, with wiling liquor at Te Kuiti, without a license, was heard at l'ena Mutu, before Captain Jackson, S.M. Ada Booth was fined on the first charge £10, with costs £6 Is, or 14 days' imprisonment without bard labour. On the second and third charges the defendant was finad JBIO and £b respectively, and costs, or 14 days imprisonment. A quantity of liquor was forfeited. Walter Thorpe was fined X25, and "costs £11 odd, and on a second charge £25, or 21 days hard labour. The sentences were mads cumulative, the fine* to be paid before 17th November. A third charge was dismissed, fer want of evidence. The evidence laid by Constable O'Grady showed that liquor was sold wholesale in tha King Country. Sergeant Treanor, of Auckland, conducted the prosecutions, and got five convictions out ot six charge*. The police raided the premises at Te Kuiti occupied by Edward Perry on Thursday last at about 0 p.m. Constables O Grady, Hyde, and Stanyer and a native ' policeman walked iu and after an ex- < haustfve search found three cases of beer two or three bottles containing whiskey. Aa information was laid on the following morning. DUNEDIN, October 21. A raid was made this afternoon on three places where it was suspected that tote, betting was carried on. The places visited were Barnett A Grant's offica in tha Arcade. A Moss', in Princes' street, andT. Barnett a iu High street. Tbo principls arrested were D. Grant, A. were bailed out. the principals in .2100 each, the assistants in £25 each, and the other persons in £6. Prosecutions will follow in due course. This Day All concerned in the gambling raid have bern remanded to appear before the Magistra c, Mr Carew. on Thursday.
