Consols were effected at ]£ per cent. The Reform League has held public meetings to denounce the Italian Government and to sympathise with Garibaldi. Mr Bright, Mr Gladstone, and the leading Liberals, were absent from the Reform Fete at the Crystal Palace. October 18. Lord Derby emphatically denies the intention attributed to him of resigning. Lord Stanley has stated that the political horizon of Kurope is cloudy, but still he hopes that the general good sense would prevent war, and was convinced that time would allay the extreme irritation existing in the United states against England. John I'aidngton has in strong terms vindicated the Abyssinian expedition, although admitting that it would encounter great difficul- | ties The latest advices from Italy, with regard to the insurrection, state that more fighting with the G'U'ibaldians had occurred. The Italian Government had informed Prance that if a single French soldier is permitted to embark for Rome, the Italian troops will immediately snter the Papal territory. The French fleet is anchored at Toulon, ready to go to sea. The Emperor Napoleon complains that Italy has broken the terms of the September Convention The Pa"al troops attacked the Garibaldians, commanded by Menotti Garibaldi, and were repulsed after some fierce fighting The P and O. Company has tendered to increase the India Mail Service. M. Fould, the eminent French financier, is dead. A movement of troops to the north o* England lias been commenced, owing to the apprehension entertnined of Fenian movements. Gnribaloi wasarresfed and conveyed to Caprera whence he escaped, and was again arrested and pent hnck. Italian cruisers are now watching the island; 5000 Italian troops are guarding the frc.ntier. and the insurrection in the Pupal States is still spreading Much uneasiness is felt in London and Paris. The Abyssinian pioneer force left Aden for Massowah on the 28th September. A heavy typhoon is reported from Papuan. The Oriental Bunk has declared a dividead of 12 percent per annum. Negoeiations have heen commenced between Prussia and Denmark in reverence to Schleswig. The Emperor Napoleon is making every effort to maintain peace. The Fenian movements are still troublesome. Fifty persons hnve heen arrested in Manchester, and a special commission has been appointed to try them. ; A Kepublican lias been elected member of Congress for the State of Ohio, and a Democrat for that of Pennsylvania.
