Phosphates For Whangarei

Advice of the impending arrival of two phosphate ships in Port Whangarei was received by the Whangarei Harbour Board from Messrs W. S. Laurie and Co., Ltd.

They are the Porlock Hill, an oilburning ship of 7287 tons gross register, 440 ft long by 57ft, beam with a maximum draft of 27ft.

Built as a Liberty ship, the Porlock Hill is due in Whangarei with phosphate in mid-January. The second ship will be the African Prince, similar in size to the Cape York, which was also a Liberty ship. She is due late in February.
