100,000 Fighting Malayan Bandits
LONDON, Wed. CIJ a.m.)—Security forces operating against bandits in Malaya numbered 100,000, the Colonial Secretary (Mr Arthur Creech-Jones) stated in the House of Commons today. He said that about 870 Communist guerillas had been killed since the beginning of the emergency. “The constant pressure of the security forces has broken up many of the larger gangs, and most of the attacks are now made by fewer than 10 bandits.”
Reuters Singapore correspondent says three Chinese women were killed and one woman seriously wounded when terrorists threw a hand-grenade into a shop in the main street of Karak Pahang today. The bandits escaped after the attack.
