First Professor Of Coal Mining
AUCKLAND, Wed. (P.A.)—Professor J. Ivon Graham, distinguished research worker in coal mining in Britain, arrived in the Aorangi from Vancouver this afternoon to become the first professor of coal mining at Otago School of Mines.
Before ne"enti.ng this appointment he was adviser to the National Coal Board in Britain. Professor Graham travelled to New Zealand through America, where he renewed a former personal association with the Bureau of Mines in Washington and Pittsburg. ? His work in Otago will include ■ome specialised teaching in coal mining, but he will be free for the greater part of his time to study New Zealand coal mining conditions and initiate research in cooperation with the Deartment of Scientific and Industrial Research.
