Strict Check On Aorangi Visitors
AUCKLAND, Wed. (P.A.). —A strict check on people entering Princes Wharf early this afternoon to meet friends arriving in the Aorangi from Vancouver is being made by Harbour Board officials.
The gate staff on the wharves has been doubled since Monday , The Aorangi is the first passenger liner to enter port since the waterfront was closed to the public Passes are being issued by the Union Company to persons with special reasons for boarding the liner. The company’s staff will handle mails, luggage and stores, but cargo from Vancouver will be carried on to Sydney. Employment was declined for the sixth working day by the watersiders when discs were posted today at the labour engagement bureau. The New Zealand Watersider Workers’ Union continued in Wellington its deliberations on the waterfront dispute this morning, but had no conclusions to report when it adjourned for lunch.
Discussion will continue this afternoon and tomorrow.
