WELLINGTON, Wed. (P.A.i— A recommendation that the standard training college course should be increased immediately to three years was made today by Professor C. L. Bailey, Professor of Education al Victoria University College, in evidence before the Consultative Committee bn Education. To offset the diminished outflow of trainees due to lengthening the course. Professor Bailey suggested continuation of the emergency scheme for training later entrants into the profession.

A proportion of students selected for entry to a teachers’ college might be seconded for full-time study at a university, he said. Proposals for a school of education were also submitted by Professor Bailey. This, he said, would associate file teachers’ college, university college and organisations like kindergartens, nursery play centres, dental clinics, the post-graduate nurses’ school, speech therapy clinics, the Child Welfare Department and vocational guidance centres.
