Australian Dock Control

SYDNEY, Tue. (1.15 p.m.). The Federal Government has set up a three-member Australian Stevedoring Industry Board to replace the disbanded Stevedoring Industry Commission.

Members of the new board are:— Mr J. M. Hewitt, chairman, Mr C. Reed, and Mr D. M. Vautin> The commission was disbanded following a refusal by two members, Messrs J. Healy and E. Roach to give an undertaking that they would cooperate with the commission and refrain from inciting members of the Waterside Workers’ Federation. Mr Hewitt said that the board would allocate all waterfront labour, supervise the loading and unloading of ships, administer waterfront pick-up centres, pay attendance money and register and discipline waterfront labour.
