They Sighed With Relief

GISBORNE, Tue. (P.A.)—When a northbound NAC aircraft-touched down gingerly at Darton Field yesterdayafternoon and rolled smoothly to a stop, sighs of relief went up from the seven passengers and from the gathering on the tarmac, including ambulance men and the fire fighting unit. After leaving the waterlogged Palmerston North drome, trouble developed with the under carriage retraction gear.

The aircraft, after circling Napier drome twice, headed for Gisborne without stopping. The passengers were informed of the difficulty with the undercarriage gear and on nearing Gisborne the passengers were warned to sit light and instructions were given for opening the safety port. The aircraft touched down lightly, apparently bringing the landing gear mechanism into normal order, for on the next approach the plane made a perfect landing.
